How to remove your phone number from the internet

Where your phone number shows up, and how to ask for it to be removed.

  1. Start with caller-ID apps

Truecaller and similar apps let you unlist your number. You will usually need to confirm by SMS.

  2. Search the big people-search sites

Use the list in Broker Sweep. Search with your name and city, and with your phone number.

  3. Use each site's opt-out page

Opt-outs often need the exact listing link. Use an email address you do not mind receiving confirmations at.

  4. Ask Google to drop contact details

Google has a form for removing results that show your phone, email or home address.

  5. Check again every few months

Listings can return when sites refresh their data.
