How the Lookup Index is calculated
Formula version 1.0
The Index is a number from 0 to 100. It is built only from things that have been reviewed. Parts that have not been assessed are left out rather than guessed, and we show no number until at least two parts are assessed.
| Part | Weight | Calculation | Assessed when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search results | 40% | 50 + 50 × (results that help − results that hurt) ÷ results rated | At least one confirmed result has been rated |
| Privacy exposure | 25% | 100 − 15 for each open exposure: people-search listing not yet removed, unhandled breach, or open privacy finding | A people-search site has been checked or an email has been checked for breaches |
| Social profiles | 20% | 100 − 4 for each flagged post still to review − 25 for each open impersonation finding | Posts have been scanned or a profile has been assessed |
| Your own pages | 15% | 15 for each up-to-date profile (up to 4) + 20 for a published Lookup Card + 20 for owning 3 or more profiles | At least one profile has been added |
Each part is capped between 0 and 100. The Index is the weighted average of the assessed parts, rounded to a whole number.
What it is not
- It is not a prediction of whether you will be hired or approved.
- It is not a comparison with other people.
- It only reflects the sources that were checked. A high number does not mean nothing negative exists online.
When the formula changes, the version number changes and earlier reports keep the version they were calculated with.
