How to make your social media private
Decide what the public sees and hide the rest.
View your profile as the public
Most platforms let you preview your profile as someone who is not your friend or follower. Start there.
Hide your phone and email
Remove them from your public profile and turn off 'find me by phone number' where offered.
Limit old posts
Facebook and some other platforms can restrict all past posts to friends in one step.
Review tags
Turn on tag review so photos others post of you do not appear on your profile automatically.
Turn on two-step sign-in
A taken-over account can do more damage than any old post.
